BUCKET LIST ITEM: CAPE TOWN
I have always wanted to experience The Labia Theatre in Gardens, Cape Town.
Someone had recommended it to me in my first year (2015), but back then I did not have a car and the 2-hour train ride from Stellenbosch had taken a toll on me already, I decided then that a visit to the museum and planetarium was enough (I fell asleep during the whole planetarium show).
Well, now in my 5th year being a student, I think it is time to experience The Labia Theatre!

Here are the specials on their website:
student/fanatics/seniors/children R40 (luckily I can still pass for a student - final year, yay!
Movie Meal Specials for Two (what a deal!):
Monday/Tuesday: Societi bistro R110 (2x pastas and 2x movie tickets)
Wednesday/Saturday/Sunday: Diva Cafe Ristorante R110 (2x pizzas and 2x movie tickets)
Thursday: Knead Bakery on Kloof street R180 (2x burgers and 2x movie tickets)
I decided to go for the Thursday special for some delicious burgers and great company.
It was quite difficult to find parking at this time of the night, but we finally managed to park on the road between The Labia Theatre and Knead Bakery.
We arrive at Knead bakery at 19:00 only to be told that they are sold out of The Labia special. After convincing our waiter that we came all the way from Stellenbosch for their special, he kindly said he would make a plan for us. We both ordered a juicy beef burger and a CBC craft beer (R20). Can I tell you, sjoe, the burgers were amazing. It came in a standard portion: beautiful butter burger buns (with an amazing recipe I must say, something about these buns, sjoe), a juicy beef patty packed with flavour, some greenery between the buns, and some thinly cut potato fries (like a healthier version of McDonald's chips). I thoroughly enjoyed the delicious meal.

The short walk to The Labia Theatre was accompanied by a gentle breeze in the lovely evening. The theatre was packed when we arrived, we decided to watch the movie "US", a brand new psychological thriller by Jordan Peele. By the way, have you watched "Get out" yet? Tell me how you found that movie in the comments below.
We then head over to the little tuck shop where they not only sold popcorn and sweet things, but slush puppies with a tot of gin or vodka (R40 each) too! I was designated driver tonight so I didn't give that a try, I will have to come back next time for that!
So we head into the cinema and find a beautiful, comfortable vintage styled movie theatre: the chairs were made of wood and red cushioning and the theatre was spacious and homey at the same time.
The lights went off and the movie begun.
Though the movie was a psychological thriller that made my heart jump out of my chest, the atmosphere in the theatre was light and whole, the jump scares were appreciated by the audience as a whole, there were collective "AHHs" and when the protagonist succeeded in their scene, the whole audience cheered collectively.
The Labia Theatre left me feeling at home and welcomed, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience there. I definitely recommended this to you. You should definitely bring a friend along and enjoy those specials too! What an experience!
Love,
